The title of "Sympathy" was made for the readers of the poem, who were mostly white, to feel bad for the bird, who represented all of the African-Americans at the time. Dunbar clearly used metaphor on the fact of the bird representing black people. The entire poem is a metaphor. Dunbar wrote this poem and represented all blacks at the time with the bird, which he always knew how it felt. Also, in the first and last line of every stanza. Dunbar always knew how African-Americans felt and, in this case, the bird, using "I know". "I know what the caged bird feels!" (7) "I know why the caged bird sings" (21), and he knows because he is one of the people who are being represented by the bird. The African-Americans at the time are post-slavery, mostly in the South as well. And Dunbar, being a black person himself, knows the discrimination of blacks everywhere. He knows the struggle of being treated lesser just because of his skin color. But that is not the only place a metaphor is s een. In the second stanza, the bird "beats his wing till it's blood is red on the cruel bars;" (8-9). "And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars"(12). He beat his wing on the bars, but in the twelfth line, he said "old scars", as if the bird done this before. This could be referencing the fighting that African-Americans are facing for the equality that they are facing. How they fight and fight but without any progress. And at the time, America was not as nearly diverse as it is today, it was mostly blacks and whites, and whites would not be fighting for anything at the time. And a white person would probably not be writing about the the struggles of white or black people. Persona in "Sympathy" is apparent in all of the stanzas and could be depicted in multiple ways. The author continued to use the pronoun "I" many times throughout the poem, and he seemed so confident that he knew how the caged bird felt. Even in the first stanza, he described the scene perfectly, always seemed to "...know what the caged bird feels" (1-2), as if he was the caged bird, even in the second stanza, explaining a pain that "...still throbs in the old, old scars" (5) "And they pulse again with a keener sting-"(13), he was the one fighting and getting scared, and still kept fighting, he was fighting, he was the one who "...beats his wing Till it's blood is red on the cruel bars;" (8-9). Selling products is not about bombarding potential customers with the global products. Instead, it has to be relevant to the context and understand local customers. This can be manifested through adaptive re-use of local landmark as retail space, renovation of historical aged building, and design fusion between brand character and local culture. The new concept store is about being able to combine the attractiveness of the brand with local taste to create strong invitation and also sense of belonging to customers. The design approach mentioned above can be applied into a store regardless of brands and products. The purpose is to create new way of shopping. Back to the statement earlier where people find satisfaction to be able to choose, it is how the choosing activity can be more valuable and rich in experience. When this approach merged with the brand character, it becomes a holistic package that convey strongly to the marketplace. The mission is accomplished when people find delight in choosing and be able to trustfully choose the brand. 3. Conclusion The consumerism-driven market will make people enthusiastically choose the products they want. With an over-saturated market in Singapore, an unconventional design is required to for a fashion retail to be distinctive and thus, win the market. Firstly, the store has to manifest the brand that it represents. The store design must convey the brand and products philosophy to create holistic picture and strong brand awareness. Secondly, in terms experience, it must create refreshing and enriching way of shopping. In attempt to achieve the experience, store needs to be designed with consideration of three approaches (flexible frequent space, center of social activities, and cultural relevance). The new retail store requires constant changing in order to provide up to date shopping experience for customers. A store has to be a social assembly more than a commercial place, providing a tranquil customer-oriented atmosphere. Child Development Essay -- Child Rearing, Natural Growth

Lareau (2003) reports that social class plays a very important role in a child’s upbringing because it helps determine the way a child will be raised. In Lareau’s (2003) study she came to the conclusion that there were two different patterns of child rearing: concerted cultivation and natural growth. Concerted cultivation is the child rearing method that middle class parents use focusing on not only caring for their child, but developing a personality by enrolling their children in many structured activities and developing language skills (Lareau, 2003). Natural growth is the child-rearing method that working class and poor parents use to raise their children because there is not a lot of time and money for structured activities and long verbal discussions with the children (Lareau, 2003). Families who practice natural growth child rearing practices need to focus on providing the simpler needs of the child like providing shelter, clothing, food, and water therefore unab le to have the structured activities and worry about establishing communication skills. This is important to consider because the way children are raised because this has a social impact. The children that are being raised today will eventually grow up to be a part of their own society; there are social impacts on the current society because of the methods of child-rearing and the consequences that these child-rearing practices are having on children with the way they interact in society, There are benefits and disadvantages to both childrearing methods reported by Lareau (2010) however there are definitive differences in the child’s outcome due to the child’s social class and thus the method the child was raised with. In concerted cultivation children spend a ... ...nd sometimes talk to my extended family I seldom see them or would by any means categorize our relationships as strong kinship ties (Lareau, 2003). This I feel has been an unfortunate result of concerted cultivation because I see how some of my other cousins behave towards each other as they are so close talking everyday and meet several times a week for lunch or dinner. I feel this is sad because while I would love to have stronger ties with my extended family I realize it is not a part of the way I was brought up because of my middleclass child-rearing. The concept of my social connections often being mostly in homogenous age groups as a child is very accurate (Lareau, 2003). Because of the activities I participated in and the area in which I lived and went to school I predominately have friendships through activities with children much like I was at the time.
